Global Scrap Metal Prices

These are the London Metal Exchange (LME) reference prices we use as a daily anchor for local scrap rates — the same benchmark traders, recyclers, and scrap yards worldwide use to price copper and aluminium scrap, regardless of which country they're trading in. Prices are in US dollars per tonne. Local scrap grades (bright wire, mixed wire, extrusion, etc.) trade at a discount to this pure-metal benchmark, reflecting purity, contamination, and processing cost — see each material's own rate page for its local Karachi range and grading notes.

Why a global benchmark matters for local scrap prices

Scrap metal isn't priced in a vacuum: copper and aluminium scrap track the LME price because both metals are globally fungible commodities — a tonne of clean copper scrap in Karachi, Dubai, or Shanghai ultimately competes for the same global refining and manufacturing demand. When the LME price moves, a local scrap yard's buying price typically follows within a day or two, adjusted for the local exchange rate, grade, and freight/processing costs. This page exists so anyone, anywhere, checking scrap prices can see that same anchor we use, not just the localized figure.

How this differs from our Karachi rate pages

Our rates page shows indicative price ranges specifically for Shershah Kabari Market, Karachi, in Pakistani rupees per kilogram, already adjusted for local grade and demand. This page shows the raw, unadjusted global dollar-per-tonne benchmark those local prices are built on. Read our methodology for exactly how the two connect.
